A practical exercise that turns scale practice into musical lines using sequences, target notes, and swing feel across a II–V–I progression.
Learn a hands-on exercise based on a line from a Petrucciani solo that combines three-note sequences, guide-tone targeting (3rds and roots), syncopation, and walking bass voicings to make scales sound musical. The lesson demonstrates the idea in A♭ and shows how to apply it in other keys (example in C), including a Bebop-style tail and optional two-bar intro targeting the vi chord. Designed to be practiced in 12 keys, this routine improves musicality, technique, vocabulary, and range by reinforcing fingerings, scales, baselines, and syncopation. A PDF with the written exercise is provided to members.
