This lesson combines rhythm-based vocabulary and melodic concepts from Thinking Ahead Volume 1 to build two distinct solos over Doxy: the first using target notes, approach tones, and enclosures; the second developing those ideas into more angular lines with upper-structure triads and cordal voicings. It demonstrates how to use rhythmic words from the bebop rhythmic course, how to target tensions on dominant and diminished chords, and how to create upper-structure and pentatonic groupings for new colors.
